Purchased during a Gold-box special; a terrific Christmas present for my 5th grader. It sat a couple of days amidst the gifts, but was used for the first time during a visit to the Monterrey Aquarium. Over 400 pictures later (during that one trip), I can call this gift a success!
Quick charging out of the box
Easy to snap and review pics (so quick to resume that we adjusted to a 3-second display)
Zoom is fine for casual use
Battery lasted all day long
Small size perfect for little hands
Dial & buttons easy to figure out
Monitor using most of the back is a visual plus
Settings pretty self-explanatory (like turning off flash) for the basics of point-and-shoot
The user manual was an easy download from the Finepix site (which we got around to days later) – it does not specify the J40 camera but the J-series. We haven’t tried the more sophisticated abilities yet, but am glad to know some cool composition features and video are possible, and will update review when we try them.
I was surprised at what an amazing value this was when purchased during a Goldbox special – Would purchase if offered again on special for other budding shutterbugs in the family!

I bought this camera for my 11yr old daughter. I wanted her to have a quality camera with lots of features, but didn’t want to spend a whole lot of money. Read lots of reviews on other cameras as well as this one. I couldn’t beat the price! (under $60) I am pleased and so is she.
